Ting & Things helps families across the African and Caribbean diaspora plan meals within a budget. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how you stay in control.
What we collect
- Your cooking preferences — household size, country, currency, diets, allergies, health goals, weekly budget and maximum cook time. You enter these during onboarding.
- Your activity in the app — meal plans you generate, recipes you save, your shopping list, recipes you mark as cooked, and recently viewed recipes.
- Your account — if you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we store the account identifier and, where you allow it, your email address and display name.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription, handled by our payments partner RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details.
What we do not collect
- No payment card numbers or bank details.
- No precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or health records.
- No advertising identifiers. We do not run ads and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers.
How your data is stored
Ting & Things is local-first. Your profile, plans, saved recipes and shopping list live on your device and the app works fully offline.
If you sign in, the same data is additionally backed up to your private account so you can restore it on a new device. Backups are protected by row-level security: your rows can only be read or written by your own signed-in account.
Who we share it with
- Supabase — hosts the encrypted database used for your account backup.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription entitlements and receipt validation.
- Apple — processes any subscription payment through the App Store.
- OpenAI (via our meal planning service) — when you generate a plan, your preferences (diet, allergies, budget, cuisines) are sent to build the plan. Your name, email and account identifier are never sent.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, for any purpose.
How long we keep it
Data stays until you delete it. Deleting your account removes your rows from our servers immediately and wipes everything stored on your device.
Your rights
- Access and portability — your data is visible in the app at any time and is exported with your shopping list share sheet.
- Correction — edit any preference from Profile then Settings.
- Erasure — delete your account and all data in-app. See deleting your account.
- Withdrawing consent — sign out at any time and the app continues to work offline.
These rights are given effect under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR. The legal basis for processing your preferences is performance of our contract with you; for optional account backup it is your consent, given when you sign in.
Children
Ting & Things is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and highlight the change in the app before it takes effect.
